Margy Hanson is a multidisciplinary artist and entrepreneur whose life weaves together art, farming and community minded cuisine. From early studio studies abroad to hands on ranching in Colorado, her work sits at the intersection of observation, craft and hospitality. Her artistic journey began with formal study in Santa Barbara, California followed by advanced training at Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design. Her quest for broad cultural perspective led her to study abroad in San Marino, Italy and San Miguel De Allende, Mexico. These experiences infused her art, shaping the themes and textures that would recur throughout her career: a deep appreciation for place, light, and the human-animal bond. This rural, hands-on experience sharpened her eye for movement and the quiet drama of the natural world- elements that find their way into her oil paintings. She built a culinary career that blends studio work with culinary imagination where creativity extends beyond paint into the kitchen, the plate became her canvas. She built a career as a professional chef, opening several restaurants and a commercial French bakery and café along the way. Her culinary path culminated in a pioneering scratch farm to table restaurant in Colorado Springs, a venture that became a hub for culinary experimentation and collaboration with winemakers from around the globe. The restaurant’s commitment to sourcing, flavor, and storytelling through food reflected her broader philosophy: art, food and commerce are most powerful when they are interconnected. She now calls Valentine her home on a small farm with her husband, a flock of Merino sheep, chickens, Rouens and multiple gardens where the region’s dramatic light and vast landscapes continue to inspire her ongoing art-making and creative exploration. Her work remains deeply connected to place-whether in paint, photograph, or the flavors of a thoughtfully composed menu utilizing produce just picked from the garden. She has shown work across the country earning awards in both culinary and art industries.
